The Plaza of Nations & Enterprise Hall on Vancouver’s waterfront was the setting for “A Glacial Fantasia,” a winter fantasy world with captivating lighting, music and characters. Inspiration for this event came to TEAM Net member Pacific Show Productions from a combination of Disney’s Fantasia and the client’s desire to present innovative and uniquely Canadian entertainment to a group of high-end international guests. What evolved was the creation of a spectacular mid-winter’s dream sequence set amid a room alive with lighting and the crisp blue and turquoise colors of winter interspersed with the client’s corporate color of purple.

As guests entered the Plaza, they were thrust into a winter fantasy world, an ice cave with rolling ground fog and lighting of blues and turquoises reflecting off iridescent icicle clusters rising up from the fog and hanging down from the ceiling. Guests emerged from the cave into the main reception area, with snowflake patterns reflecting off walls, birch trees highlighted with blue and turquoise lights, ground snow cover and giant snowflakes in the trees, with a string quartet adding just the right amount of elegance and ambiance.

The wintry dining setting included white table skirting, napkins, chair covers and chair bows that provided a dramatic contrast to the individually carved iceberg table centers on a sea of purple, blue and turquoise table linens resembling a tossing Arctic ocean. Ten-feet tall purple ribbons overhung the balcony the length of the dining area, with giant snowflakes at the tips creating a “snowstorm” effect. The stage became a huge ice cave, with a white cloth backdrop acting as a canvas for Northern Light patterns and other wintry designs. Iridescent icicles hung down from the ceiling and snowflakes adorned the front edge of the stage.

The after-dinner show began with pyrotechnics, segueing into a routine of stiltdancers with fire emanating from their fingers. Eight rhythmic gymnasts working with balls and ribbons finished their routine around a box containing the first stage performer, an incredible contortionist magically summoned by internationally-known illusionist Rossini. Next came an aerial hoop act performance, followed by a series of mind-boggling illusions by Rossini and a dancing with fire routine including a stiltwalker with a pyro “pinwheel” on his back, a a “Fire Princess,” two twirling torchbearers and an awesome “Fire Angel” with fire emanating from his back! The climax of the show was a huge snowstorm created by four giant snow cannons fired from the mezzanine, providing a perfect “last snow storm of winter.” The rhythmic gymnasts, Snow Queen, Queen of Winter and Jack Frost led guests out of the event and provided an upbeat end to the dreams of winter.
